1) Engage - generates interest
access prior knowledge
connect to past knowledge
focus attention
stimulate thinking
2) Explore - loosely struct ed hands on experiences
examine their thinking
establish relationship and understanding
3) Explain - introduce content
present terms and vocabulary
distinguish skills and processes
articulate what they have observe and experienced
4) Elaborate - make macro level of conclusion
build connection
high on Blooms's (how do you know?, why do you know?, why should you care?)
5) Evaluate (self-evaluation) - assess their own understanding
demonstrate understanding
apply understanding to unique problem situation
